Award winning artist and Maui, HI native Neal Chin, has been both an ‘ukulele educator and performer over the course of his musical career of 19 years. His clear and direct enthusiasm for music has come to life in countless workshops, concerts, and private instruction. While his heart is in jazz, Neal has played with many musicians of different genres including Hawaiian, folk, rock, and hip-hop. His contribution to the collective The Akira Project, won his first Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award in 2014 before moving up to the Pacific Northwest. Since then he has been nominated for the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award for ‘Ukulele Album of the Year two years consecutively for ‘Ukulele Paintings and The Spotless Mind in 2017 & 2018, started his own ‘ukulele practice in the Pacific Northwest, and has toured from Vancouver Island BC to Milwaukee to his home state, Hawai’i . Neal currently lives, teaches, and performs in Seattle, WA.
He is the leader of a Ukulele swing trio. They mainly play Jazz. The 2nd Album was awarded the 40th Na Hoku Hano Hano award in 2017 as the best International album. Swingy Sakano appeared on NHK Kobe's "Jazz Live Kobe" and appears on TV and Radio programs. He has been featured in the media and the music journals. He was the Ukulele Contest finalist in 2013.
Junichi Moriyama
From Kanagawa, Japan.
Studied composition and performed Piano in Yokohama area.
He discovered the Ukulele in his 30s and started to play Pop, Jazz, and various genres with electric sounds with the instrument.
Junichi was also a finalist for KIWAYA's Ukulele Contest and has appeared on NHK Kobe's "Jazz Live Kobe" show.
In 2015, Junichi (he) started his Ukulele school in Yokohama and has started to perform Ukulele professionally.
He is known as a Ukulele soloist and as the leader of Macro Lei Jazz, a quartet featuring Ukulele.
They released 1st album " Macro Lei JAZZ "
in Japan and Taiwan in 2019.
This album was nominated for International album
in 43rd NA HOKU HANOHANO AWARDS in 2020.
